Discover New York in 10 days
A ten-day stay in New York allows you to really take the time to explore the city. We go beyond the clichés to soak up its energy, its diversity and its authenticity. Here is a complete itinerary, mixing essential monuments, unknown neighborhoods, moments of calm and cultural discoveries.
Day 1 – First Steps in Midtown Manhattan
As soon as we arrive, we feel the unique effervescence of Manhattan. The discovery begins with Times Square, a mythical crossroads where everything seems bigger, faster and brighter than anywhere else. The giant screens, the crowds, the yellow taxis: everything is in the image of the city, disproportionate and fascinating.
Continue your walk along Broadway, between storefronts and legendary theaters, before reaching the Rockefeller Center. The place is a symbol of New York architecture, and if you go up to the Top of the Rock, you will discover one of the most beautiful views of Manhattan.
In the evening, stroll around Bryant Park: the park is peaceful, the cafes pleasant, and New Yorkers come to relax there after work. It’s a perfect first evening to soak up the local rhythm.
Day 2 – Modern art and iconic architecture
Dedicate this day to art and elegance. In the morning, visit the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art), one of the most inspiring museums in the world. Even if you are not passionate about contemporary art, it is difficult to remain insensitive in front of Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” or the works of Warhol and Matisse.
Have lunch at a nearby cafe, then walk to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a splendid Gothic building in the heart of skyscrapers.
Continue to the Chrysler Building, an Art Deco jewel, then to Grand Central Station, whose celestial ceiling and majestic architecture are worth a detour.
At the end of the day, go up to the Empire State Building to admire the illuminated city. It’s a great classic, but the emotion of seeing this skyline at dusk remains incomparable.
Day 3 – Central Park and the Museums of knowledge
In the morning, head to Central Park. This gigantic park is a world apart: squirrels, musicians, joggers, families … everything breathes New York life. Rent a bike or just take a long walk crossing bridges, lakes and lawns.
Take the time to stop at Bethesda Terrace, one of the most photogenic points of the park.
To the west, discover the Natural History Museum, a fascinating place, both for its dinosaurs and for its interactive exhibitions. In the afternoon, cross the park to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This colossal museum deserves several hours: Egyptian art, impressionism, European sculptures … you can find everything there.
End the day in the Upper East Side, a chic residential area, perfect for a quiet dinner.
Day 4 – Lower Manhattan and Collective Memory
This day is dedicated to history and symbols of freedom. Starts at Battery Park, departure point for the ferry to Liberty Island. Seeing the Statue of Liberty looming in the distance is a strong, almost solemn moment.
Continue the visit to Ellis Island, where millions of immigrants once passed. The museum is moving, filled with faces, letters and personal stories.
Back in Manhattan, explore Wall Street and its famous bull, before joining the September 11 Memorial. The place requires respect. The silence, the water that flows into the basins, the names engraved in the stone … everything invites us to meditate.
For dinner, change the atmosphere in Tribeca or Chinatown, two neighborhoods that reveal very different facets of the city.
Day 5 – Brooklyn and the skyline from another angle
Cross the Brooklyn Bridge on foot early in the morning, when the golden light illuminates the cables of the bridge. The view of Manhattan is striking.
Arrived in DUMBO, explore this neighborhood in full renaissance: between renovated warehouses, art galleries and trendy cafes, the atmosphere is peaceful and creative.
The Brooklyn Bridge Park offers incredible panoramas of the skyline. It is an ideal place for a picnic or a coffee facing the horizon.
In the afternoon, head to Williamsburg, a trendy neighborhood known for its thrift stores, murals and craft breweries.
In the evening, return to the bridge to admire the lights of Manhattan. The contrast between the serenity of Brooklyn and the frenzy of the city opposite is striking.
Day 6 – Chelsea, the High Line and urban art
The morning begins in the Chelsea district, with the discovery of the Chelsea Market, covered market where you can find everything: bagels, tacos, lobster rolls and designer cafes.
From there, take the High Line, an old railway line that has become a suspended promenade. It is a unique experience: we walk between gardens, works of art and breathtaking views of the city.
At the end of the route, discover Hudson Yards and the Vessel, a monumental and photogenic structure.
In the afternoon, explore Greenwich Village: bohemian atmosphere, brick facades, European-style cafes. It is one of the most pleasant areas to stop and observe local life.
In the evening, why not attend a concert in a small jazz bar? The experience is typically New York.
Day 7 – Harlem and African-American culture
That day, head to Harlem, north of Manhattan. The neighborhood has a unique soul. Discover the Apollo Theater, symbol of the African-American music scene, where great artists like Ella Fitzgerald or James Brown started.
If you are there on a Sunday morning, attend a gospel mass: a strong, sincere and moving moment.
Then stroll through the streets lined with brownstone houses, admire the murals and have lunch in a soul food restaurant (like Sylvia’s, an institution).
In the afternoon, go down quietly to Central Park, for a moment of calm before the evening.
Day 8 – The elegance of Midtown and the great classics revisited
Take advantage of this day to review some symbols of the city from another angle.
Pass by the Flatiron Building, a small architectural masterpiece, then discover the surroundings of Madison Square Park. It is a perfect place for a lunch break in the sun.
In the afternoon, do a little shopping on 5th Avenue: Apple Store, luxury boutiques and legendary department stores such as Saks or Bloomingdale’s.
In the evening, attend a Broadway show: musical, concert or play, it’s a magical moment that sums up all the energy of the city.
Day 9 – SoHo, Nolita and the New York of Designers
In the morning, explore SoHo, a chic and artistic district. The old cast iron factories now house galleries, designer boutiques and cafes with an industrial atmosphere.
Right next door, Nolita and Little Italy retain an authentic charm, with their Italian restaurants and their decorated streets.
For lunch, try a traditional New York pizzeria, before continuing to Chinatown, more noisy and colorful.
In the afternoon, stroll without a specific goal: it is often by getting lost that we discover the most lively corners of the city.
In the evening, choose a rooftop for your last dinner in Manhattan: the night view is a memory engraved forever.
Day 10 – Last hours and suspended moments
Dedicate this last day to relaxation. Come back to the places you loved: a walk in Central Park, a coffee in Greenwich Village or a final stroll on the Hudson River embankments.
Do some souvenir shopping in SoHo or on 5th Avenue.
Before leaving, take the time to stop, look around and realize everything you have just experienced.
New York tires, shakes up, amazes. And often, when leaving the city, we have only one desire: to return there.
