The Majestic Theater in New York

The Majestic Theater is one of the most famous theaters on Broadway, mainly for hosting the fantastic musical “The Phantom of the Opera”. The Majestic is one of the largest theaters on Broadway, which has 1,680 spectators and is still used to host large productions. This theater has been home to “The Phantom of the Opera” since its inauguration, which dates back to 1988, with more than 13,000 productions on Broadway.

Ambassador Theater in New York

Located at 219 West 49th Street and seating 1,125 people, the Ambassador Theater is one of the oldest theaters on Broadway. This house, which currently houses the musical Chicago, was inaugurated in 1921, the latter being designed by Herbert J. Krapp. The Ambassador Theater was sold in 1935, used as a film and television studio for about 20 years, until its former owners, the Shuberts, took it over. Like the other Broadway theaters, this house opens its doors 45 minutes in advance for each session, and it is recommended to arrive at least 15 minutes before the show.

Minskoff Theater in New York

The Minskoff Theater was designed by a famous New York architectural firm, Kahn and Jacobs, and is located on the third floor of the One Astor Plaza. This building is considered one of the most famous skyscrapers in the Big Apple, being this one composed of 55 floors, and was named Minskoff because of the family and the owner who built it. The theater that is located there was inaugurated in 1973, being this very modern and currently home to the famous Broadway musical “The Lion King”. Located on 45th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues, this theater has about 1,621 seats and offers a beautiful view of the famous Times Square.

Gershwin Theater in New York

The Gershwin Theater is currently hosting the Wicked musical, one of the most sought-after productions on Broadway. A very curious thing about this theater is that its name was defined as a way of honoring one of the greatest American composers, George Gershwin, and his brother, the lyricist Ira Gershwin. The Gershwin Theater opened in 1972. It has 1,900 seats and is located at 222 W 51e, more precisely in the famous Paramount Plaza building.

August Wilson Theater in New York

The August Wilson Theater, located at 245 West 52nd Street and with a capacity of 1,275 people, was built in 1925 by the Theater Guild, precisely to accommodate its own productions. At that time, this theater was called the Guild Theater, but it was renovated in the 50s and received a new name: ANTA. Already in 1981, this performance house was called The Virginia, in tribute to Virginia M. Biger, co-owner of Jujamcyn Theaters, a theatrical production company from New York. It was in 2005 that the August Wilson Theater was named after the playwright August Wilson, the first time that a Broadway theater took the name of an African-American.
